The School of Geopolitics and Public Policy (SGPP) Faculty of Liberal Studies, REVA University was honoured to host Lt. General Asit Mistry VSM, AVSM, PVSM, for an insightful and inspiring lecture on “Strategic Rivalry” as part of the Certificate Course on “India’s National Security in the Age of Techno-Geopolitical Disruptions”.
We are also sincerely grateful to Shri Nishit Patil from Chintan Research Foundation (CRF) for his valuable address on “Geo-economics in the Age of Technology”.
We express our heartfelt thanks to Sir for an exceptional and deeply enriching session that offered a clear and compelling illustration of how strategic rivalry has evolved over time, shaped by the continuous interplay of competition, shifting power balances, and emerging security threats. The lecture thoughtfully traced how such rivalries, which can be observed in various forms since the early modern geopolitical order, are influenced by multiple factors including political ambitions, military capabilities, technological advancements, and economic interests. It also provided a meaningful understanding of how these tensions are managed, transformed, or brought to resolution through diplomacy, deterrence, cooperation mechanisms, and changing global structures. The session was truly a thought-provoking exposition that enhanced students’ understanding of contemporary strategic affairs and the complexities of international security.
We are equally grateful to Shri Nishit Patil for his insightful address, where he effectively explained how economic instruments are increasingly being used to achieve strategic and security objectives in the modern world. His talk highlighted the growing importance of geo-economics in shaping state behaviour, where trade, finance, technology, and economic interdependence are becoming key tools of influence and power projection in global politics.
The programme was organised by SGPP, Faculty of Liberal Studies, REVA University, in knowledge partnership with the Centre For Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) Chintan Research Foundation (CRF), Chennai Centre for China Studies C3S, and Usanas Foundation.
