How this programme is different

Design Engineering programme is at the intersection of two streams of education, which blends Core Engineering with Creative methods of Design.

  • All design-oriented programmes award a B.Des (Bachelor of Design) degree, which typically focuses on appearance, aesthetics and form.
  • This is the only B.Tech programme dedicated to developing technologically complex new products that integrate technology, functionality, performance & aesthetics, with very unique features

Unique Attributes of the Programme

  • Develops the Design Spine: Builds competence and confidence to undertake the design and development of new engineering products.
  • Design-Centred Engineering.
  • Focuses on the design synthesis of engineering a new product, guiding its journey from ideation to market deployment.
  • Carefully sequenced courses that progressively build design capabilities.
  • Outcome of the programme: A product rather than a conventional academic project.
  • Pedagogy:
    • Activity-based, challenge-based, and project-based experiential learning.
    • Engineering concepts taught with a design-centric perspective.
    • Interdisciplinary curriculum.
  • Use of Advanced Tools for Product Development: Leverages cutting-edge tools such as AI, ML, and digital technologies to drive creativity, simulation, and optimisation in developing design solutions.
  • Strong Industry Immersion: Field visits, internships, workshops, and live projects across industries involved in the design and development of new products.
  • Design-led Innovation: Facilitates start-up ideation, scalable venture creation, and entrepreneurial development.
  • Competence Building: Develops skills and expertise through a combination of training, practice, and hands-on experience.
